Vice President Kamala Harris landed her first delegates Sunday just hours after receiving the endorsement from President Biden to become the Democratic presidential nominee after he dropped out of the race.
The Tennessee Democratic Party said Sunday that it voted during a meeting to support Ms. Harris as she runs for president.
“During a meeting today the Tennessee Delegation to the 2024 Democratic National Convention voted to support @KamalaHarris for President of the United States,” the party said in an X post.
The delegates joined together on a Zoom call at 4 p.m. to talk about the party’s “path forward,” according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Mr. Biden announced he was dropping out of the race Sunday afternoon in a letter posted on X. Shortly after, another post from him endorsed Ms. Harris to take over his spot on the ballot.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made,” Mr. Biden said. “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
