Healey throws support behind Harris after Biden bows out of presidential race

Harris, a career prosecutor turned politician, “is the best person to make the case against Donald Trump,” Healey said in her endorsement.

Gov. Maura Healey has joined a growing list of Democratic politicians rallying around Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the party’s 2024 frontrunner Sunday upon President Joe Biden’s decision to bow out of the race. 

Healey praised Harris as a “proven leader who has delivered for the American people again and again,” asserting that the career prosecutor and former California senator “is the best person to make the case against Donald Trump.”

“The future of our country as we know it is on the line,” Healey said. “That’s why I am thrilled to support Kamala Harris as she works to earn the Democratic nomination and beat Donald Trump.”

Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll followed suit Monday, praising Harris’s role within the Biden administration and holding the vice president up as “a woman who has worked tirelessly on behalf of all of us with an incredible record of accomplishment.” 

“There is no one better prepared to stand up for our democracy, to lead on our values, to carry forward the interests of Team Massachusetts and to beat Donald Trump than Kamala Harris,” Driscoll said in her endorsement, calling Harris the “clear and best choice.” 

Harris has also received backing from other leading Democrats in Massachusetts, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey; Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Lori Trahan, Katherine Clark, Bill Keating, Richard Neal, Jim McGovern, Seth Moulton, and Jake Auchincloss; Attorney General Andrea Campbell; and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
